Remember vitamin D is fat-soluble and there are two major forms: D2 (ergocalciferol) and D3 (cholecalciferol). When it comes to absorption both seem to be equally efficient and raise levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the active form and a clinical measure of D status. At very high doses D3 may be more efficient at raising levels plus some studies show that D2 gives more inaccurate and low blood measures.
